"Love is..." comic strip collection is well-known all over the world. These soul-warming illustrations have won kindly feelings of thousands of people thanks to their innocence and simplicity. Love is comics were created by New Zealand artist Kim Grove in the late 1960s. The beginning to the series of comical illustrations was laid by a certain number of love notes for her future husband. Love is… pictures were published not only in daily newspapers, but the most famous of them were printed on post cards and souvenirs as well. All "Love is" illustrations are made up in the same appearance. The beginning of a phrase that gave the name to the whole collection of comics "Love is" is printed in the upper left corner of the picture. In the middle of the panel there is a nice drawing. And under the drawing there is the remainder of the phrase whose sense is displayed on the drawing. There are 2 key personages that make their appearance on every picture – a loving couple, a male and a woman. They look like infants, but still, they represent grown-ups at different stages of romance – from the day they met each other through being a boyfriend and a girlfriend to a married couple having children that show up on the pictures every now and then. Amid other characters that are displayed from time to time there are also parents of a male and a female. The introduction of different members of the family helps to show all sides of love. The key characters are usually together, but sometimes they appear alone. If one of them is thinking about the other, the face of his partner may be shown in a dream balloon, on a photo, or a screen saver. There are also some illustrations where other men or women are shown. A distinctive feature is that these people look absolutely different than the key personages. Another minor character is a dog that symbolizes common house and home cosiness. Besides, the majority of the items on a picture are heart-shaped. It's a symbol of the collection's major theme. Today's "Love Is..." comic illustrations, as seen in newspapers and magazines in the whole wide world, are accessible in an on-line archive. It is kind of an effort to stretch Valentine's Day romance through the year. Individual pictures have become e-mail greeting cards and may be sent free of charge to a special friend.
